Over the past several months, I have heard rave reviews about the Amazon Kindle device, which allows
the user to download books and store them for reading anytime. I like the idea of having an entire library of possibilities at my fingertips when I am on the go.
I have been tempted several times to get one, but I couldn't get past the big pricetag. Currently, the latest version of the Kindle runs $359.00, and the "first generation" version starts at $239.00.
I wouldn't mind paying these prices IF the device included books, too, but each book runs another $9.99 on average for first-run titles.
With that in mind, you can probably imagine how happy I was to realize that there is a Kindle application for the iPhone!
But there must be a catch, right? Nope. It's FREE!
I downloaded this app within minutes of hearing about it for the first time, and I am finishing reading my second book on the iPhone this week. Incidentally, the very first title I grabbed was Malcolm Gladwell's new book, "Outliers" (highly recommended, by the way). Gladwell has become one of my favorite writers, since he always makes me think.
So, if you have an iPhone, and you like to read, this is a "must have" application. It only takes a few seconds to install, and you can immediately start book shopping. Enjoy!

Jason, this is one reason why I should purchase the IPhone. I love to read and this sounds like a great way to to read some free books. thanks,
Jason, take a look at Mobipcket and eReader, too (two other formats). Amazon has kept the prices of its ebooks for Kindle pretty high, but the others have lots of books available as well.
Wow that makes the purchase of an Iphone even more affordable --thanks for filling us in. Have a great day.

Sure give this No-Tech guy something else to think about. I have a hard time just dialing out.
I really need to do this as well - I did see and read about it some time back but it has been one of those things (haha) that I have to remember to do... ~Rita
just waiting on delivery of my iPhone 3GS right now...sounds like something to check out to be sure!
Thanks for this Jason. I have two iPhones and love the Kindle (even though THAT I don't have). I would imagine the books on the iPhone screen are pretty small. I'll check it out though.
Me thinks that I would need longer arms (or stronger glasses) to read anything of substance on my iPhone. Is there a way to increase the font size? Thanks for the tip!
When they offer an iPhone that runs Windows Mobile, I'll jump on the iPhone bandwagon, but I don't do the Palm platform >=I LOL. I have tech geek issues.
Wow, just one more reason I need to look into the iphone.
Great free application, I'll check it out this sounds like my kind of reading...I love a small screen! Mindy
WOW, one more reason to convert to the Iphone.
Very cool. Thanks for the tip Jason. I have the iphone, but sometimes it takes too long to look at all the apps. I wait until I hear about something and then go check it out. I'll certainly check this one out.
hi,
very, very cool! more power to the iphne for the kindle app!
I just to my Iphone yesterday, so I am certainly going to have to check this out as I've come to actually enjoy reading over the past couple years, something that I thought I would never say.

Are the books also $9.99 to dl on the iPhone?
Jeremy - Yes, most of them are in that range.
WOW what a great reason to get an iPhone. BTW my book on the Kindle is only $7.77.
Margaret - Sounds like a bargain! I might need to pick that one up next.
Great to know Jason. I have been contemplating the Kindle purchase too. One more reason to get an iphone - still attached to my Blackberry.
Jason,
I do have the Kindle app on my iPhone but the one that really blows me away for book reading is Stanza.
Rich
Rich - I will check that out! Thanks for the tip.
