Many of my friends have asked me to post about my weight loss journey, and a good number of them have contacted me to let me know that they were inspired to start their own program from reading about my progress.
In an effort to bring a few more people along with me, I thought the time was right to give an update here.
As a quick reminder, I started at 248 pounds, and my original goal weight was 210.
This morning, I weighed in at 212 pounds.
Needless to say, I'm happy about this! The weight has come off faster than I expected, so I have revised my goal to 205 or thereabouts.
Nine days ago, I started a new exercise program along with my good friend John Cannata (loan officer in Dallas area). We are committed to finishing the P90X system, which will last 90 days. After that, I may just repeat it in order to maintain what I have worked to achieve. Truly, the workouts are very challenging, but I have seen swift results in my strength, endurance, and appearance. It never hurts to get compliments from my wife on my abs. :)
I continue to count calories using the iPhone LoseIt! application, and I am also walking/running most evenings if time permits.
I found that the hardest part for me was in the initial week or two, when I was adjusting to a new regimen, but at least 80% of the battle was making a firm decision to begin.
Part of my original motivation was to help my son with his weight loss, and I thought it would be a great thing for us to do together. He has lost 23 pounds so far, and he's feeling and looking much better and healthier.
The only drawback I've found to this point is the fact that I had to buy new clothes, but that is a price I'm willing to pay, of course. My waist size is down four inches to this point, and my extra large shirts are too big on me now.
THANK YOU for your continued encouragement and compliments. I truly appreciate the support from my friends.
If you decide that you want to do this type of thing yourself, I would be happy to provide some encouragement for you and to bug you a little (in a friendly way).
Thanks for reading!

Congratulations to you and your son on your weight loss it is good to have you both involved working together towards a goal. Wish you both success.
Enjoy the new clothes and wear them proudly! Both you and your son shoud be VERY proud of what you have accomplished. The key is to keep in up long enough that it becomes a lifestyle.
You Go Jason. Congratulations and keep it up!
Congratulations! This takes a lot of hard work and dedication.
Wooohooo! Good for you for sticking with it and congrats on your success to-date! It's really cool that you're sharing as you go. I'm sure it's encouragement to a lot of folks out there, and will hopefully inspire some to take that first difficult step!
Awesome job Jason. Isn't it amazing that almost all of us know what to do and what to avoid yet fail to do either? Alright back on the bike for me :')
The first step is making the decision to do it then comes the determination to stick with it.
Congrats Jason.
Wow that's great Jason! That P90x is that intense workout right? Wow!
Congratulations Jason. I too started a couple of weeks ago. I've dropped 4 so far and have about 30 to go. You're right, it's all in the mind. I've done it before but you just have to make up your mind to do it.
I'm also using Lose It on the iPhone and it is nice for the calorie counting.
Very impressive, thanks for sharing some inspiration and a CAN DO attitude! Stay healthy.
Good for you Jason. I once lost 25 pounds and it was the hardest thing I had over done!
Jason, you look great! I need to get motivated......this summer I've added some extra pounds and they gotta go!
WOW that is so awesome, and clothes shopping should be fun!
Wow Jason, You look great! Keep it up man...
Jason,
Wow, you're doing the P90x? Youzzza, that's serious stuff, good for you. Now a question, did you work "up to" that level, you didn't start there did you?
That is awesome....being able to learn good eating habits as a family is priceless...Keep on...
What a terrific achievement for you Jason, you are doing really great! Congrats!
Congratualtions to you Jason. I swear that I almost missed your post today as I scrolled right by not even recognizing your picture. You should be very proud of your accomplishments thus far.
Having to buy new clothes is PRICELESS. You are looking better and better each time I see you, buddy!
Congratulations on your weight loss! It is great that the people of AR support you!
Good for you Jason! I'm especially happy for your son--too many of our children are overweight and developing middle-age health problems as pre-teens. Kudos to you for being a participatory parent and teaming up with your son--you both win!!
WOW ! Jason...way to go....
Congratulations, Jason, that is indeed an achievement.
Jason, Way to go on your weight loss and your son too. What a hard thing to actually stay with and accomplish. You should be proud of this wonderful accomplishment and your stick-to-it-iveness. Is that a word????
That is absolutely fantastic! Great for you. I am sure you are feeling great and the benefits to your health are immeasurable. Woo hoo!
Jason, That's amazing! You are dropping weight SO quickly! I read John's post about his success thus far as well...are you doing the Yoga too? LOL..I'd love to see you guys in your Yoga stance. :) Keep up the good work. What a great Dad for supporting your son. You both must be so proud of each other!
Looking good, man!
at least 80% of the battle was making a firm decision to begin.
That sounds very similar to blogging! :)
Elizabeth - I am indeed doing the yoga (90 minute sessions!). Today is yoga day, actually. :)
Holy Mackerel! You look fantastic! Even your profile pic is different from today's pic!
Keep up the great work--I know it isn't easy!
What a cutie patootie you are~I am sure you will do more business/better business~just because you FEEL so goooooood. What a good idea to revise your goal and thanks for the P90X advice. I love weight lifting, spinning, trx, hiking, biking and walking my doggies: Thelma + Louise.
Congrats on the weight loss. Back in 2000, I lost 33 pounds, and buying the new clothes was the most frustrating part. I thought I was done when I lost 20 pounds, and when I kept losing it and spending more money, I actually got upset. I wore baggy clothes for awhile until I finally stopped losing and just leveled off... at a size 4! My goal was a size 8... though I did have to buy a bridesmaid dress in a size 2 which was unbelievable!
Jason, congrats! Loosing weight is really hard. I've tried and tried. I'll look into this system. I'm impressed you have time with all you do.
Congrats to you and your son!!! That's so great. Your right, the beginning is the hardest!!! Once you start seeing results, the motivation begins. I have lost 27 lbs and it feels great, and I'm not quite done, at least another 5 would be ideal. I was in my daughters room trying on their new back to school clothes and their jeans, and they fit!!!! Was awesome!!!! Sure makes you feel good.
Keep kicking that ass, seabass! I think it's safe to say that your shared experience serves as an impetus for many to get off their duffs and commit to achieving what they lament, but do nothing to accomplish. Be it weight loss, business generation, bucket list goals, etc, nothing like a success story (and an incredibly expedient one at that) to inspire the masses to greater personal heights. At risk of sounding condescending, I'm proud of you and Brandon.
Now if you would just get rid of the head of yours, you'd be down to a buck eighty in no time;)
Congrats, big man medium-sized guy!
Paul - Nothing condescending about that - it's genuine, and I appreciate it. :)
Sardi - Thank you, sir. Wait...did I just call you "sir"? :) I passed my original goal weight today - we'll see how much more I can lose while gaining muscle.
Hi Jason,
Most people don't realize it starts in your head first, then once you commit the results are amazing! Your success is inspirational & it's a great life style. Let me know how you like the P90X workout, i'm looking for something new. :)
Jason, I can't even tell you how proud I am of you. Way to go!
Any suggestions for me? I've lost 35 pounds and I really need to lose about 10 more. I'm stuck and worse, some weeks I gain a pound or two. I'm so close but I can't seem to get the losing going again. What should I do?
Oh, you probably don't remember, I started working on this about November, 2009. I watch what I eat and actually don't stuff myself anymore. I journal and I run almost every day. About 3-4 miles.
I didnt know you provided an update on AR. Well, publicly I will congratulate you (since we already spoke about this). I know your initial weigh loss is what had me thinking I needed to do something. And Im certainly happy to have an accountability partner for these workouts.
Jason, you look great. Keep up the good work. I know how difficult this can be.
Jason - you're looking skinny! I won't recognize at NAR in november (if you're there).
Jeff
Hi Jason. That is am amazing feat. I lose about 32 pounds once and it was tough. Kudos to you!
Congratulations Jason and buy the new clothes they are your reward for reaching your goal.
This is a wonderful gift you are giving to your family..a role model to you son. Congratulations and thanks for the inspiration.
Margaret
Congratulations Jason, you hunk, you.
Jason it is great to hear you are reaching your weight loss goals. I can really see it in your face - CONGRATS!!
