As part of our ongoing efforts to lose weight, I promised my son that he could have "special time" with me or my wife for every 5 pounds he lost. I've lost roughly 50 pounds and he has dropped 35+ so far - we feel great! About three weeks ago, he wanted to go for a hike at Zilker Park and explore a little bit.
I had intended to make a longer video, but it was HOT that day, and we ended up changing our plans a bit. Enjoy:

Thanks Richard! We feel WAY better these days.
Jason..Great video !!! I really enjoyed it! Thanks for the post! Short videos I have found keep the attention of viewers .Long videos viewers tend to get bored ..Thanks again..Congrats on the weight loss ..I need to do the same ..

Movie theater A/C is one of the best ways to beat triple-digit temps. There will be a lot more days for exploring.
Hannah - Thanks so much. I was planning on filming a little more detail, but it got so hot I didn't remember to get the camera out as much. :)
John - That was our thinking, too. It was refrigerated inside the theater, which was just what the doctor ordered. Now that fall is "officially" starting this next week, we'll get out again.
I am so impressed with both of your efforts. Your smiles reflect the new energy you've found. I could not have lasted nearly that long in those temperatures which we also endure here. Keep it up!
Jason - A great example you are for your son. This experience, and life changes, will stay with your son for decades!
Kevin - I feel amazingly good these days compared to before. He looks and acts so much happier now. I'm very happy that we decided to start this journey together.
Gary - Thanks so much for saying that. I feel like I managed to save both of our lives, although I realize that sounds a little dramatic. :)
This was so neat, interesting to see the "real" you in the video versus the perception of you that has been created in my mind via AR for the past couple years. Keep up the good work!
Jason, too hot to be outdoors, I'd rather be indoors enjoying the AC. Seriously, it was good to see you and your son enjoying quality time together...even in the heat.
You two are such an inspiration......so proud of you both! Having begun exercising and jogging, I hope I will be able to lose some weight too. I decided I'd better quick talking about it and get active!
Jason, great video, loved it, as you can tell from my post today, spending time with your kids when they are a part of your day to day life is so important. Don't waste a moment, because before you know it...they are grown up and getting married....PS I don't hear a southern accent....
Way to go, Jason. You are to be congratulated on your ongoing and public efforts-sharing this weight loss journey is a great way to be supported and held accoutable ! Continuede success to you both!
Janna - I'm glad that you waited until I was thinner to watch me on video. I've posted a few of them here over the years. Glad you enjoyed it!
Rebecca - That's why we ended up changing our plans a bit. :) We had a terrific afternoon.
Ann - Good for you! Most of the battle is making a firm decision to do it in the first place. Keep up the good work!
Gerry - I will check out your post. I feel the same way - I want to enjoy them while I still can. I don't think I have much accent, although I've lived in Texas my entire life (born and raised in Dallas, moved to Austin 22 years ago).
Bill - It's tough indeed, but I'm happy to have accomplished this much so quickly. :)
Barbara - Thanks so much for saying that. :)
Hi Jason,
Congratulations on your weight loss..I'm proud of you both!....Very impressive and love the video of you and your son!
Town Lake is Ladybird Lake? Since when? I rowed on it (and worked at the 4 Seasons) in 1987. GREAT body of water for rowing.
Jason, I'm so proud of you and your son for the weight loss. What a great motivation you have to be healthy for him. Keep up the good work. Keep moving - even in the heat.
I just got a video camera and as soon as I can figure out how to use the darn thing, I hope to start posting some short videos. I really feel like I get a better feel for who you are from this.
I'm glad you took the time to post this. Thanks and stay cool!
Hey who was that skinny guy doing the driving?
I probably would have dropped a line into the water off the bridge and blown off the rest of the walk.
Dorie - Thanks very much! I feel incredibly good these days, and I'm so happy we made a commitment to get fit. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Evelyn - I really do feel like that is the case. Neither of us was headed in a healthy direction.
Phil - They renamed it in 2007, right after Lady Bird Johnson passed away. At some point years ago, they also renamed 1st Street to Cesar Chavez.
Marian - Thanks! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. You hit the nail on the head with your comment - that's the reason I enjoy posting these sometimes (to give a better, more 3D sense of who I am).
Cameron - That would be.....me. :) I haven't fished since I was a kid - I need someone to teach my son and me both how to fish.
Jason,
So glad you are doing better. You are in inspiration to the rest of us that want to get back in shape. Excellent post nice park also.
Jason.. that is awesome about you and you son, on what you are both doing about losing weight.. something I need to get more into.. By the way, I was expecting a true nature trail, not a cement walk way through the woods... lol Where is your adventure old man... lol Anyhoo... glad you both had a great time and thanks for sharing..
Wow Jason, look at you and your son! Good for the both of you, as for 104+ not good (obviously) for hiking but that happens.
One of my recent faves was in the desert South/West in SoCal, we began very early to beat the heat yet would have been better an hr. earlier.
Keep up the great work!
Hi Jason... Zilker Park is one of my favorite places in Austin... but not on days where the temps are in the triple digits!
Salute to both you and Brandon, Jason - on many levels! Fabulous incentive for your son, some extra quality time with Dad.
Wow. That's what its all about. Love my little man and 3 ladies. Jason -- congratulations on your success in both the online arena and in cuttin' weight with your son.
I've recently had to cut out eating after 6 PM and some of my ice cream habits cuz I was doin' the body wrong. Life's a gift - thanks for sharing it.
Hi Jason! What a cute video and I love the motivation to get 'QT' with dad! Your son is just a cutie pie and I know you're ever so proud of him for his recent weight loss. That is amazing that you've together, shed 85 pounds (and I'm sure counting...)!
Hope you're doing well and have a wonderful week...
That's awesome, Jason, congratulations to you and your son! Now I feel lazy for watching football!
Glad I watched til the end. Great solution to those HOT Texas days! P.S.: I almost didn't recognize you from your new pic. Congrats!
Brandon looks GREAT! He is doing so well. You are doing 'ok' too.
