It's been amazing to watch the growth in downtown Austin since I moved here in 1988. There are approximately 1200 new condo units that are coming online in the next 2-3 years.
When I was a kid, we used to drive through Austin from Dallas on the way to see my grandmother, who lived in Corpus Christi. I remember looking over and seeing the state Capitol building, which was by far the tallest structure at the time. Now, it is dwarfed by several buildings, and they are only getting taller. The Frost Bank building is currently the tallest at 33 stories, but there are plans now to build a 44 story AND a 55 story building, both of which are primarily residential.

JASON - Wow! 1200 new condo units in just 2-3 years. That's quite an impressive number. If I have any condo buyers looking to relocate, I'll pass them along to you.
Jason, congratulations on your first post. It is neat to visit the post that started it all.
My first thought when I read the newsletter was "Hope I don't make it to the top, b/c my first post was pretty bad" then I read yours and now........ Hi Jason,
How long ago did these condos start, no new developments have started in over a year in Downtown San Diego, cant get financing and not a good market to sell it, is it different in Austin?
Cheryl - This made it into a newsletter? Yikes!
Jason,
With 200,000 points achieved in comments so far (200,000 Points Just for Commenting - A Milestone that Actually Means Something to Me) on AR, I had to come by and check your first ever post! As David said it above, it is neat to visit the post that start it all. This is your first 2009 comment on your first post! :)
