This is Texas weather, right?

I have to admit that the fall came on a bit quicker than usual this year.  In fact, we sometimes seem to skip fall altogether in this area.  I have lived in Texas my entire life (born and raised in Dallas, lived in Austin for 20+ years now), and I've seen years that transition from late summer to winter with nothing in between.

For those of you who prefer using the word "autumn" instead of "fall", I applaud this, because it shows a romantic/poetic side.  In fact, maybe I should start trying to implement this into my everyday speech.  I bet I could get some of my friends to start saying it if I make a concerted effort.

Although it's late October, I am still surprised to see nighttime temperatures in the 40's.  Yes, the FORTIES!  This is Texas!

I was on Twitter for an hour or so last night, and I saw something that I have never in my life seen before: one of my friends was complaining about Austin being too cold!

I have worked with clients from all over the country, and we've lost potential home buyers to other, cooler parts of the world in the past, but I haven't heard anyone discussing the fact that this area was too cold for them before now.  It made me wonder where she was from, but I didn't get a response to this question.  Perhaps the Mojave Desert?

My wife made a funny comment about our cool weather last night, "Clearly, global warming is making things colder."  (Please refrain from commenting on the hidden politics of this off-the-cuff humorous statement.  I don't like debating my friends.)

I once wrote a post about the perceived negatives of purchasing in Austin, Texas:

"High Property Taxes, Heat, and Tornadoes, TOO? Why would I want to move to Austin, Texas?"

It was a hot summer, but I like when we get a real fall/autumn - every day seems like a day that I would like to play golf.  Even though I rarely play, it just sounds appealing when it's 72 and breezy.

Jason, we pulled some plants in last night because of a possible freeze.  Youv'e got to love that global warming; don't you.  I have lived here almost 13 years but I don't ever remember a cool front this early.

Gorgeous photo Jason. Austin too cold? Wow, some REAL thin blood there. They would die if they got off a plane in Minnesota in February.

Great shots.  It's beautiful up here.  To be 65 on Friday.  In Illinois, this time of year, it's perfedct weather.  It could be like this year round.  Sweatshirt and shorts.  Can't beat it.

We have had an unusually warm autumn here in So. NH.  I have enjoyed every minute of it after our record breaking snow last winter!  Today was unsually cold -- it's almost freezing now -- but we are going to have a warm up for Halloween!  I would rather skip all the snow and go straight to spring!

Hah we hit the 10's. I guess big geographical difference lol. I noticed it was a late late summer here and then poof fall and now poof winter. Or at least it seems that way. Nice colors this time of year though.

We see something strange here in Florida. The weather got a bit cooler, and it was so welcome, and less than 2 weeks later it got cold (by Florida standards). I know that the weather will come back, but this cold front effectively killed the swimming season, the water in the ocean cooled down.

And every year a similar thing. It is never that the weather slowly gets cooler, no. It always goes through a cold break, and then stabilizes again.

I was just telling someone earlier today that this global warming ordeal is getting out of hand, because if it keeps causing all this unseasonably cold weather I don't know if I can take it.

I have had conversations with people about GA... too hot, too cold... too whatever.  Of course, after 19 years I think it is pretty close to right.

Jason,

I would gladly trade you Texas weather for Northeast Ohio weather!

It's so nice to read a post where the weather is the subject being complained about instead of the economy, the housing market, etc.  It's refreshingly normal, so let me chime in--it's been way too hot in LA, but if I can believe the weatherman, relief is on the way.

Jason, I'm not quite sure where Austin is...Texas I know - but the trees sure are pretty!  It's sunny here in Seattle, but that's a secret!  I'll take some more of that Global stuff....

Today was about 95 and sunny. The nights are getting cooler. Tonights low will be about 58. There is something to be said for living in the desert.

Hey Jas, as you know I did the DFW metroplex for awhile until I decided it was too cold for me there...then I went to the southernmost (west coast) city in the US I like...it still gets chilly here every once in awhile but it's still great! :)

Jason,

No fall here.  Only sunny warm days with a few cold fronts that last two or three days and back to nice weather again.  I agree - 40's - too cold for me. I guess I have been in Florida too long.

I think we are going from summer to winter here, already had some snow around here

Hey!  What's wrong with the Mojave?  Are you just another jealous Texan because the Mojave has the World's Tallest Thermometer?!  :)

Jason - It got into the 20's last night here in Tennessee. But the days are beautiful. Low 60's and not a cloud in the sky.

Jason - 40's...too cold...?  You're right - They must be from the Mohave Desert.  It gets below zero in St. Louis, and we're not very far north!  :)

I love this time of year in TX.  The weather was one of the reasons I moved from California.  Sounds wierd, I know.

Jason,

Those colors are plain magnificent. In these parts, Vegas, fall is still to come. Today's high is up to 88 when the normal high is 74. Go figure.

Posted by Esko Kiuru over 3 years ago

We have had the same cool spell in NC the last few days. Today's high was 58 , but with the bright skies and sunshine it feels much warmer.  Coming from the north I can't complain. We spent last Sunday afternoon on the beach and looks like this weekend will lend itself to another beach afternoon with temps hitting 70.

Jason - up here in NH we are in the 30's at night and further north there has been snow. Autumn is my favorite time of your year - the warm (50's & 60's) sunny afternoons and cool brisk mornings with all the leaves colorful and swirling in the breeze are exhilarating.

Gorgeous picture, thanks for sharing.  We don't get much of a "show" of the seasons here on the coast, so I love seeing the pictures.

That is a gorgeous shot of the fall leaves. We are seeing some bright fall colors now in our area as well. This is such a beautiful time of the year.
