I wanted to get a few shows under my belt before sharing this with all of my ActiveRain friends. Ken Cook and I have been hosting a weekly show on BlogTalkRadio on Tuesday mornings for the past few weeks.
The show's basic surface theme is about social media, real estate, and mortgages, although we are both pretty goofy and seem to enjoy sound effects, so it often devolves into a "morning zoo" type of atmosphere, as it did yesterday morning.
The "live" show is from 11am to noon Central time (12pm-1pm Eastern), and the recordings are available in the archive for listening at any time. It was originally 30 minutes, but we expanded to a full hour after realizing how quickly time went by.
Yesterday was our first hour-long show and it was utterly unscripted (perhaps a little too unscripted, but it was fun!). We might decide to do a little more planning, but the free-form nature of it is exciting and challenging, too. We have also had some audio and technical issues to deal with via the platform - that is another layer that tests our ability to keep things rolling along smoothly.

BRIEF WARNING: This last show had audio problems for the first three or four minutes, and twice briefly during the broadcast. Just keep listening and it gets better! I welcome your feedback, but keep in mind that I have only attempted this four times so far, so be gentle. :-)
If you have any interest, there are also three previous shows that we did together on Ken's page here: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/KenCook
If you have any interest in joining us as a guest, we would love to have you on sometime. In upcoming weeks, we have a handful of guests scheduled, including the CEO of a real estate investment site, a couple of authors, and a smattering of social media consultants.
Frankly, I would be happy to have anyone on with us who is interested, because we want to help promote YOUR business along with our own.
If you had asked me at the beginning of 2008 if I wanted to host an internet radio show, I probably would have balked at the chance, but I realized that this is one more opportunity to learn a brand-new skill and make more contacts along the way. Why the heck not?
So far, our record for a live audience is around 20 or so with a couple of callers, but we have about 10 times that number listening to the archive. I would love to shatter both numbers early in the year. Come join us if you like!
If you enjoyed this post, why not connect with me elsewhere or subscribe via email?

Jason, this is a great idea and will give you some extra exposure as well. Happy New Year to you and your family!!
I wondered what you were up to when I saw a Tweet about this yesterday. By that time your show was nearly over (I think), and I was preparing to leave for an appointment. When I have some time I'll go check out your shows.
Love the logo. I checked out one last week after Rita Burke told me about it. I want to listen to the next one - Very cool!! KM
Hi Jason...I will definitely listen again.
You continue to amaze me. How do you find the time to do all of the things you do?
Happy New Year to you and yours.
Kate
Umm - excuse me, Mr. Crouch. Umm, Mr. Crouch, sir ... may I have your autograph? I just know you're going to add "on air personality" to your resume' and I want to be one of the first to have an authentic, real deal, honest to heaven autograph.
Great job, Jason!
Jason,
Ken is a great guy! Good luck to you both in this new venture, and Happy New Year!!! Thanks, Fran
Jason - Do you have a hat rack for all of the different ones you wear? Have you found the secret to getting 36 hours out of a day? I'm astounded!
I will check you and Ken out Jason.
Thanks
Bo
Happy New Year Jason!
I'll check out the link.
Bill
Ah, big deal. I listen to you prattle on the phone for hours on end already.
Oh fine, I'll listen.
Happy 2009, dude.
Jason..sounds like fun, and if you aren't careful...it could be educational!
GARY - Thanks, man. I hope you also have a terrific 2009. I'm looking forward to the new year. Come check out the new show if you have a chance - I appreciate your supportive words.
Happy New Year, Jason!
I want to do a real estate radio show Crank Yankers style. That would be way too funny!
Jason-I will try to get to the next one. I signed up, so hopefully I will not have problems getting on. Sounds very interesting.
Radio shows? Those are always fun to do! I wish you the best my man!
ANN - I really appreciate that - thanks! I hope you enjoy it. As I said, we had a few rough minutes of choppy audio, but the last show was very entertaining, in my opinion.
Awesome, dude! You rock. Ralph
what a great idea, good luck!
I'm with Amanda. Better to crank than be cranked, you know? Something to think about before we start calling in.
KRISTIN - I would love to hear your feedback from our first show, with the few minutes of audio/tech issues aside. Congratulations on your engagement!
Very cool, I subscribed and added you as a favorite. Rarely have a been able to listen live as the time zone and busy with clients but I will go back and listen Great idea for 2009 Jason, this actually gets good Google Juice if you hadn't noticed.
I'm going to try and remember for your next radio show - I'd be interested in stopping by.
Today,
I am working on setting one up also after doing a radio show on Tuesday. I've been wanting to do it for awhile, but never knew how. Now, I have met someone who knows how and after doing the show on Tuesday say I should start my own.
So, I'll be talking a little earlier time slot I think though.
TODD - That sounds great. Maybe we can do some cross-promotion this year! I heard you on Tamara's show - you should be a natural for this.
Bummer, I missed it, because we were on the road, en route home from Texas. 'Hope this went well... 'didn't see a follow-up in the comments, but maybe that's coming as a separate post.
MARGARET - No worries. It's a weekly show - our next one is tomorrow morning at 11am Central (noon Eastern time). You can also listen to the archives anytime. Thanks!
Very cool Jason. I wonder if agents donig cutting-edge things now: actual brodcasting, and all forms of web 2.0, how they would have thought things would today back in the 1980s, or even some of the 90s for that matter.
