After having been hounded for weeks by my friend Julie Chapman to write a new meme, I finally decided to just bite the bullet and do it while I have a little free time tonight.
Here we go:
1. I sincerely considered a career as a cartoonist or artist when I was a kid. I used to sit for hours copying the comics from the Sunday paper - Garfield, Snoopy, Beetle Bailey, Snuffy Smith, you name it. I also have some sketches (somewhere) of entire rooms from my house and my grandmother's house. I would choose a spot in the room, and draw everything that I could see while sitting there.
2. I cry at the drop of a hat. So PLEASE stop dropping all of those hats around me! Where did that phrase come from, anyway? But I digress. I seem to have obtained this from both sides of my family. Here are a few things that will make me cry every time:
- McDonald's commercials
- Spontaneous gestures of love expressed from one of my kids to another
- The ending to "It's a Wonderful Life" (never fails)
- Having a prayer clearly answered, demonstrating God's love for me
- Certain songs from the late 70's, when I was about 7-9 years old
3. I am an only child, and so is my wife. So were both of my parents, and my mother-in-law. My father-in-law was not, but his brother is about 18 years older, so he was basically raised as an only kid. With that in mind, our family tree sort of came to a point when my son was born 10 years ago. That's one of many reasons that we wanted more children.
4. I have never travelled outside of the United States (except to cross the border into Mexico for a few hours), and I have lived in Texas my entire life. Also, I have only visited a handful of U.S. states. It may sound lame, but my wife and I don't really enjoy traveling all that much. I prefer being around familiar stuff and people, I guess.
5. I played high school football, and I led the district in quarterback sacks as a defensive end on the team in my junior year.
6. This may or may not seem noteworthy, but I read the entire Bible about a year and a half ago, and I am starting again soon, probably with a different translation. My wife and I are both voracious readers, and now our kids are, too! We are a family of readers, with literally thousands in our "collection". The library was one of my favorite places when I was a kid.
7. There are certain phrases which will trigger a song lyric in my head, and I start singing to myself, or sometimes out loud. I have the same issue with funny movie scenes. Frankly, my wife and I have so many "in-jokes" now that it's ridiculous. I see that as one of the perks of being together so long. We understand each other.
My head hurts now. Can I stop? Thanks.

Hi Jason , Good MeME !!! Aren't they the hardest thing to write ?? I really wouldn't of figured you for a crier though!! LOL Very cool that you read the Bible - the entire Bible - I have not done that, but love to read books. Thanks for sharing parts of Jason! GBU
Jason,
Did you get to the point when your wife starts saying something that you were thinking of? We are doing it all the time, but then, we are 38 years together...
Reading is now a rare pasttime, but a terrific one.
Thanks for a good Meme
Jason,
....I now release you from any further Meme's......you are in the Meme free zone....I give you a Meme pass........sorry, couldn't help myself on this one......
hounded.....as in hound dog?....would that be a reference to my looks or personality? or better yet.....both?
BTW,
I have order 10,000 hats (charged to your credit card) and they are being delivered in increments. Enjoy.....
Libraries were my favorite places when I was a kid too. My mother went to Stanford University so after we moved back from Europe she would take me to the Stanford University library and I would just stay with her as she studied, I would read. I love to read. My favorite thing to do is to read. I also have read the entire bible and have daily scripture study.
Thank you for sharing. I love getting to know rainers.
Hi Jason,
Great MeMe.
No, Julie please don't release him. Jason's MeMe's are always so entertaining.
Jason,
Most interesting read....was glad to hear a bit more about your personal side being relataively new to AR...I too am not much for travel, spend a lot of time in the Word...and yes, I too cry at the drop of the hat....
Well, you are better than I am...haven't done my Meme yet...procrastinator that I am...
I was expecting you to say you cried during "Old Yeller". I can remember going to see Ghost in the theatre and all the men in the audience were crying...see, you are not alone....as for that hat thing...seek help! I've been taged at least six times now for a meme. Not going to do it...wouldn't be prudent....besides, I'm oh so boring and have nothing really to say that would be of interest to anyone.
It's always interesting to read a MeMe, but I especially enjoyed yours. I enjoyed reading about someone who is such a great writer and one who shares quality information here on Active Rain. Just know that it is much appreciated.
Jason #8 on your list should be: Take the first letter from the months July on through November and what does it spell...J-A-S-O-N!!! That my friend is what makes us unique! Take care and happy blogging!
This may or may not seem noteworthy, but I read the entire Bible about a year and a half ago
That's VERY noteworthy! I've tried several times but always seem to get bogged down at Jeremiah.
Thanks for sharing the details. I read the entire bible when I was 23 yrs old. Perhaps I should do it again now that I am A LOT older. I am certain the perspectives will be different.
Jason,
Actually, I'm glad to have learned these seven things about you. Funny how personal the impersonal cyberworld can become through blogging.
Mike in Tucson
It is always nice to know more about the man behind the blog. I smile at #7 as our family has the habit of also breaking into a song when someone says something that reminds of us a song. Our friends just look at us and shake their heads.
Thanks for Sharing.
Sharing is learning along with everything else you help teach us with your post.
Have a great day
Tony
A nice glimpse into yourself Jason, its fun to learn about others. I suggest road trips after the baby is a bit older, take the children to see the USA. You will love what is outside Texas as much as you love inside Texas! The Great Smokie Mountains are awesome, Yellowstone, and my favorite is Sequovia National Park where the trees touch God's chin. :)
Jason! It sounds as if you are hearing "things"! I understand, I can hear a song and keep repeating it throughout the day!
I too am an only child! A good reason to have more than one child!
Why does none of this surprise me? No wonder you are the TCT!
Sorry your head hurts, but glad to get to know a little more about you. And hey, you have to find those drawings of your grandmothers house, they should be framed and WE (your active rain family) need to see them.
Jason...
One fun thing my wife and I do is a game in which you only converse with lyrics from songs. The phrases can be from any song, and it's just a lot of fun ... great as a time killer when traveling in the car!
Took me many, many years to read the entire Bible - I've read the New Testament several times, but finally got through the entire Old Testament. Glad to hear you've passed the reading gene on! Reading is so important - test this by watching a movie and reading the book that the movie was created from. There are nuances, thoughts, whole scenarios that never get captured on screen. There's nothing like it! Thanks for sharing another MEME with us, I know a popular guy like you gets hit a lot...
Jason,
Dare I ask why a McDonald's commercial will bring you to tears? I have a goal to read more this year than past years and for me that could possibly be 3 books and I will have met my goal of more. ;-)
Jason - It's nice to learn some new things about you. I'm like you in that I've never been out of the United States except to barely go over the border into Canada once. The difference between us, though, is that I really enjoy traveling.... :)
Thanks for sharing! My father gets a tear in his eye at the drop of a hat; I seem to have the same trait - it's obnoxious sometimes.
I get the song trigger ordeal, that sort of thing happens to me all the time.
Jason, I really enjoyed your MeMe and learned things I never knew. Songs will pop into my head and then I can't get rid of them!
Jason,
I enjoyed this meme as I got to know some more about you through it. I wouldn't have guessed that you don't like to travel. It didn't surprise me about your wish to be a cartoonist or artist though.
Ahh.. an inside look at Jason Crouch. Appreciate you sharing. I love ya man! okay, I threw that in to see if you would cry. No? Well, I gave it a shot. Seriously, thanks for sharing a bit about yourself.
Hi Jason,
I enjoyed learning more about you, so thanks for sharing! I too love to read and always have at least one book going (usually more than 1 though); I think it's great that your children enjoy reading too. I don't have kids yet, but I hope to instill in them the value and love of reading too.
Have a great day,
Anne Rains
P.S. I'm in the middle of reading the whole Bible right now too. I've found a website where I can read it in chronological order and it breaks it down into sections for me to read each day, pretty neat!
Okay Jason,
That was pretty cool. A little window in your life. You probably be a pretty cool guy to hang out with. I do think you need to travel a bit. You seem like a people person, and people persons really enjoy traveling meeting other people that are different. You and your wife read a lot that's cool. My family are mostly readers also. I have never read the Bible in a year, but I have read it most of my adult lfe. So again very cool post, nice to know you.
See you on the web,
Steve
Jason,
Great meme! I am not one to cry but when my little guy does something cute it just melts my heart. How do they get so smart so fast!
... any tears for this little guy JC ???
I cry everytime I go to see one of my kids in a school play, chorus, whatever....I've even teared up at parent teacher conferences!
Cartoons eh? Strangely enough, I used to too! :-) As for 'crying' once again you've shown a vulnerable part of yourself..........
Its kind of neat that you've chosen to break the single child streak! Don't like travelling you say? hmmm does that mean you won't be doing that Alaska cruise from Vancouver?:-(
As for the Bible........several years ago - in my pre-christian days...I remember having a debate of 'biblical proportions......;-) the other party said something to the effect that my 'intellectual integrity was at stake ' if I was debating something I had never read! I then chose to read the bible from cover to cover in ever version/translation..........so far I've read 6..............and it definitely changed my life forever!
Well, well, well....I learned some cool things about you. A softy Quarterback. I have one of those in my family. And a avid book reader that would be me. I guess we can learn stuff about folks we thought we knew after all.
Bro, I am sorry to hear that the meme bug got you...squash it with your foot like a bug
We share the Texas High School Football Badge. This is one thing the uninitiated will never understand. My last game was in University of Texas Stadium where I played against Eric Dickerson. Though I scored on him once, he... well... he took advantage of our weaknesses. :-)
ok...........some of these definitely deserved a comment back!......You spill your guts, they spill there guts..........ya know what I mememememem? :-)
Chuck - You played against Eric Dickerson?!? WOW!
Liz - Will this suffice? ;)
Hmmm actually I was thinking of my comment, lol...;-)
Liz - I know - I was just giving you a hard time. SIX translations? That is awesome!
I wouldn't count on seeing me in Vancouver/Alaska anytime soon. I really hate to fly.
Hey Jason,
I didn't know that about you. I'm not a fan of flying either. I did fly last year, to Chicago for my niece's wedding, but that was the first time in roughly 20 years.
Bruce - I haven't flown in almost 10 years. Interestingly, my last trip was to Chicago as well!
Jason........ummm .......you could drive...............and then cruise? ;-)
Liz - I guess we could do it with an RV?
Can I have your word on that???? You'll be doing ALL the kids in your family a Favor - trust me! :-)
