It's been awhile since I wrote a post about my kiddos, and I thought it was probably long overdue. This is not a reflection on their antics in any way, as they continue to provide some very funny moments on a regular basis. Instead, I've just been plain busy, and I've had other stuff to talk about, it seems. But I digress...
Earlier this evening, I told my wife (again) that I think my son, Brandon, is one of the most naturally funny kids I have met. In other words, he doesn't have to TRY to make us laugh. A prime example was earlier today, when he was talking with my wife and another female friend of ours. He was explaining something (my wife doesn't remember exactly what), and they started to talk over him.
His reaction?
"Girls, girls, please. Let me finish."
Apparently, my wife and our friend both had to fight off the laughter. Keep in mind that he is TEN years old.
Not long ago, I mentioned that I couldn't understand why Dora the Explorer was allowed to roam around by herself....with a monkey. What is up with that, anyway? I guess it's just following a broad tradition in children's television of utterly unsupervised children in cartoons (think "Peanuts", if you will).
Brandon's response was perfectly timed: "You're right, Dad. She could end up with heart, brain, or organ damage." BWAHAHAHAHAHA!
Yesterday, Brandon came into our room and abruptly asked, "Guys, how can I make a lot of money?" Fast on his heels, our seven-year old daughter Aleah entered the room and said:
"Don't listen to him. He just wants to get infinity dollars so that he can make me eat monkey brains!"
Um...okay.
To explain this, Aleah set up a "stand" in our living room this week named "Aleah's Service". She is selling coupons at a very modest price in exchange for doing chores or other help for whomever needs it. I was very proud, and I applaud her entrepreneurial spirit. She made at least 50-75 cents today! At any rate, her brother had to figure out what her price was to eat a big plate of monkey brains. What are big brothers for, anyway?
Our almost-three-year-old daughter, Abby, is still ridiculously cute, which is a good thing, since she is a holy terror sometimes. The other day, I was trying to make lunch for the kids, and I told my wife that it was much like having a climbing octopus in the kitchen with me! She was seemingly everywhere all at once.
One of Abby's favorite things to do is "Dad-skiing", which I just coined tonight. Basically, she holds onto my shirttail while I am walking around the house.
"WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Dad - this is fun! WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"
She loves it when I abruptly change directions, or if I just walk in a circle. Big fun on a little budget, right?
Man, I love my kids.

Jason, thanks for reminding us of the everyday moments that make it all worth it. As crazy as they make you, man I can't imagine life without them.
Jason, I LOVE the monkey brains comments! It is so good to know that all big brothers torment their little sisters and it was not just me! I look at my two kids and wonder how I lived through being a little sister to my older brother. I guess little sisters eventually get even though! ;-)
Haaaaaaaa! I soooo get the parental ski thing. My little one is always hanging off a leg (or other body part) getting a free ride (LMAO). Wassup with monkey brains? (ROTFLMAO) The girls, girls girls was just priceless! Good stuff!!! :-D
Jason,
I love the Dad-skiing idea! It's amazing when you think about these low budget entertainment ideas that mean so much and are real "memory makers!" You could write a book on your son's comments and to think he is only 10! Great post Jason..thanks for sharing your wonderful stories!
When my daughter was little she liked dancing with Dad which meant she would stand on the tops of his feet while he danced...another free ride. It all goes much too quickly (sighing)
Jason,
Blessed you are!
Bill
Jason - thanks for the smile, I miss those times with little kids, mine have been grown for quite some time.
Thanks for the smile. I love to here about the things kids say.
Daddy skiing was popular in our house too.... but be careful... it's tough on the lower back.
Jason,
A house with kids is never dull and you are right -- they say the funniest things and they are so HONEST!
Love the Dad Skiing thing!
My little girl used to do that, but I never gave it a name....Now, I have one!
A trip to the park, a walk in the woods, a bike ride.
It's so nice that we can entertain our little ones without even having to spend a dime.
Although, now that mine is a teenager, even those things seem to cost me money!!!
And when is the next one due? I bet that you go to bed every night with a great big smile on your face.
These are great! Kids are wonderful! I had a chuckly last night when I had my twins in one of the bedrooms trying to get them ready for bed. I was on the floor and had a hold of one's ankle trying to pull her back to me to dress while the other was jumping on my back saying "Hold on tight! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!"
It was crazy but you just have to laugh!
I love the stories about your kiddos Jason! The "monkey brains" is priceless.
If the kids can keep having big fun like that, then think of the money you will save.
Jason - I am laughing like a hyena just reading this stuff. If they were 'live and in person' I would have to have a laugh pillow against my belly. You are SO blessed to have such a beautiful family. Maybe you should tape some of this stuff so you can play it back at their 21st birthdays. :)
Jason - That reminds me of my older brother picking on my twin sister & I...Oh, the memories! :)
Jason... the innocence of a child is precious and fleeting. Today they love you, tomorrow they won't know you.
Hi Jason... Sounds to me like there is rarely a dull moment in the Crouch household! I totally enjoy your posts about your children! Brandon is definitely a riot.
Fun post Crouch. I can't wait for my son and daughter to be to have "conversations." It seems like it's taking forever!
That's the price for monkey brains..."infinity dollars" !!! Too funny!
Fun, Fun, Fun! My 3 year old recently asked for a little sister and then my 8 year old chimed in and asked me why we don't have another baby? After I answered that Daddy was happy with his two boys and that he thought babies are a lot of money and a lot of work my eight year old said, "But Mom, you do most of the work anyway!"
Kids - gotta love 'em! =)
Jason, Kids - How fun they are. You are a blessed man.
Jason - Brandon has got a future in the entertainment industry. Don't keep these gems to yourself. Keep sharing 'em!
Jason, I love reading all your cute kid stories! The stories I hear these days about my kids (now 17 an 19) are not really what I want to hear! What a pleasure to see how much you enjoy them!
Kids have a great sense of humor....it's great to have them around to make you laugh!

ROFL! It sounds like Brandon is actually very intelligent. Have you ever had his IQ tested? And the dad-skiing is hilarious. My daughter used to do dad-flipping. He would hold her hands while she walked up the front of him, then flipped over. He could carry on a conversation and let her do this over and over, without batting an eye. *sigh* If only I could ever be that relaxed.
So cute! What a great dad you are :)
